Calcium Benzoate (E213):

Calcium BenzoateConsumed Truth: Shouldn’t be consumed by people who use aspirin.

Description: Conservative used in non-alcoholic beverages, fruit juices, chewing gum, ice-cream and margarine. Hinders the growth of yeasts, molds and some bacteria. Found naturally in most fruits, mainly in blueberries, cranberries as well as in mushrooms, cinnamon and milk products. There have been cases known when it caused reactions similar to allergies, due to the release of histamine. It has a strongly irritant effect on the stomach mucosa. Acceptable daily intake for one person: 2.5 mg/lb of body weight.

  • Syrups
  • Jellies
  • Jams
  • Sauerkraut
  • Pickles
  • Fruit Cocktails
