Dear Non-Fiction Author,
Here’s a little you should know about me…
I had been working in printing for quite a few years when my bosses put me in charge of a 9 person typesetting department.
I knew nothing about it.
That was rough to say the least. I worked for a book publisher and printer in Boulder, Colorado.
The desktop revolution was a few years away. I had to learn fast and I did.
These machines like the one pictured above, created galley type which was a column of type that then had to be pasted up into the layouts.
The heads were added separately.
It was very labor intensive. but we got it done and all books were created this way.
I was eventually promoted to managing other departments and then the entire production team.
I stayed with the company for about 5 years.
I brought in Macs and we switched over to desktop computers which was quite a transition and not entirely smooth.
After that I went to a color separation company for a bit before I started my entrepreneurial journey in 1991.
I have been in business for myself since then.
My passion is helping people. I have to say I love books and always have.
I started a pre-press and design company then and eventually merged with 5 other companies to create the largest digital printing company, at that time it was in NYC.
We had 17 locations across the US.
The attack of 9/11 hurt that business so I started a new one, Digital Arts Imaging which focused on trade shows, events and decor.
Both of these businesses are still operating although I am no longer part of the first business.
Fast forward to today and we have built Book Design and Print for authors and publishers.
When I was a kid, the library was my favorite place in school and I love to read.
I used to read mostly non-fiction but now I read mostly fiction.
Now, I am passionate about helping authors get their dreams printed into reality.
