Dear Potential Student,
What are your study skills and how do you use them to help you?
There was a time back in school where I didnโt want to do any studying or care to know why it was or is important.
From that experience, I had a hard time just doing my homework.
As I got older and found myself in the industry of teaching, it made sense as to why studying, learning new methods on how to study was crucial to the path of success.
In order for you to acquire good study you have to be open in your mind to want to know how.
If you do not, then you are wasting your time or perhaps it is just not your time to learn.
Only you can decide what you want.
You can start off with simple study practices that allow you to absorb information without getting a headache.
Letโs take a look at 3 techniques that will help increase your study skills:
- Index or Flash Cards.
- A Notebook.
- Reading a Book.
Index cards make it quick and easy for you to refer to a keyword about the subject you are studying.
For example, when you the word โHappinessโ on one side and โThis is how I feel everydayโ on the reverse side, you will always relate to the fact you feel happy the more you rehearse and read it to yourself over and over again.
The more someone asks you what the definition of happiness is, your auto response will beโฆโItโs how I feel.โ
Flash cards can work the same way.
The value of this method is that is increases your retention rate for memorizing content in the sequence you originally recognize it.
A notebook is good because you can write down your thoughts, feelings, emotions, notes on what you learn, and be able to review it daily, nightly, weekly, and monthly.
The more you write with your hand, the more you retain what you are experiencing.
You can also write down a term, define it with its accurate definition, and then write it over without looking at the definition until it becomes memorized and stored in your subconscious mind.
Redundancy is the mother to all learning.
Reading a book determines how well you keep your focus.
If you are easily distracted then you want to write down how often you get distracted.
When you keep good notes on how your mind stays focused or wanders, you can be aware of what you need to tame within yourself.
Books are a good, primary indicator of how well you measure your level of focus.
The above mentioned are just a few ideas on developing good, habitual study skills.
This suggestive input can help you increase your retention rate, understand material more precisely, and creates a good mental routine on how you review information.
Integrate various strategies so that it helps open up untapped areas of your mind.
It helps enable your brain to route the information to the areas in your life where it will make a positive difference.
